    I'd probably get a dry bag to put all that in or at least the cooker and pot in maybe the knife, spork, wet ones, oil, and water filter system, with matches or fire starter.

    Hay buddy, this tent peaks my interest, but coming from the UK with alot of rain during winter and spring would you recommend it for here in England or just for here during the less heavy showers summer months..

    • @UltralightNerd
      @UltralightNerd Місяць тому

      I live in the Pacific Northwest where it rains 8 months out of the year pretty heavily. I would say it depends on your style. Are you doing long form multi-day backpacking trips? My only concern with the tent is using it consecutively wet days where you would be putting away a wet tent day after day. If I’m doing longer trips I prefer dyneema tents where I can wipe down the tent before putting it away. Other than that it holds up against rain like most double wall tents.

    • @BruSwayneable
      @BruSwayneable Місяць тому

      @@UltralightNerd amazing feedback thanks. I suppose both but there is often a break in the rain to dry it out here, believe or not so I'm guessing it would be a good buy. What was the full back weight again?

    ref the water purify tablets. have kept them in my gear. my experience with them is to have the tablets expire before every being used. so they are no longer carried for that reason, do have a sawyer filter instead. if i need to chemically treat water a couple drops of bleach will do the job.

    Honestly, I don’t think this mug is intended to throw in your rucksack if it contains a hot drink - I’m sure the nice people at GSI would agree. Buy a screw top mug if that’s what you want. I absolutely love this mug. Make a hot drink in it, put it aside as you break camp BUT leave the sipper open a tiny bit to allow for any build up of steam to escape. By the time your rucksack is packed, you’ve got a nice mug of hot coffee ready to send you on your way. Otherwise, it seems you love the mug as much as I do.

    I really love this idea! I am seriously considering it, so am really dissecting the instructions. When you drill the hole in the Nalgene bottle, you mention using a 1 inch hole saw bit, but at 5:10, you mention 1.5 inches. I looked at the dimensions of the spigot, and it looks like that area would be 1.57 inches, so I believe the drill bit is supposed to be 1.5 inches rather than 1 inch. Can you please confirm?

    • @UltralightNerd
      @UltralightNerd 3 місяці тому

      Thanks for the comment! I would say look at the specs for the spigot you purchase and take a look the size needed. At the moment I have no clue 🤣

    The only part that I wouldn't spend the money on would be the dyeema bag. Since the cup comes with a bag, I use that. To me it's not work 20 bucks plus shipping to save 9 grams. Everything else is spot on and I use the exact same equipment. My own set also includes a tiny vial of soap and a very small sponge/scrubber.

    • @UltralightNerd
      @UltralightNerd 4 місяці тому

      For me the dyneema bag isn’t just about weight savings, but it’s a non-porous material that doesn’t soak up water or hold onto dust. For me this is totally worth it as I’ve had experience with the Toaks bag collecting a ton of dust in high alpine desert areas.

    I based my Astro build off this build although I used a few different materials. This was the first build I saw that had the cabinet behind the driver's seat. I think it's a must for an Astro and I've seen more and more people incorporating it into their designs. 👍
